Make a Million: Concepts and Ideas
|
|
Futuredex.com is a San Franscisco based company that wanted to occupy the center of the
venture capital world. To that end it had its own magazine that was being packaged and sent
along with
Worth magazine to some estimated 400,000 subscribers. It had a 'matchmaking' website that hooked up thousands of startup members with venture capitalist members.
It organized workshops, seminars,
conferences and, interestingly enough, competitions for funding. Match a Million competitors
attempted to outdo each other with their inventions, business plans and human talent for
the ultimate prize of a million dollars in matching funding. This was so successful, that probably
someone watching taped portions of the competions decided it would make for
good television. Yeah why not. We have a million other reality based million dollar shows,
lets have another one. Modelled on the lines of American Idol, Futuredex's Make a Million is about finding the one
product/invention that will receive a million dollars in funding through a process of elimination. The exact logistics of
the show were being sorted out and it was decided that a website be created first to give
the producers something to show to the networks.
Based on as loose a brief as the one above, I set out on creating possible website options
for the show. From the four ideas that I sent across, one was based on a "Golden Garage" theme.
It was garish from the get go and I will never ever design anything with that much gold in it ever. But a looming deadline, and
atleast three ideas to fill, there it was. The one that did get selected was the flash based
"Pastry chef" theme. I would have commenced further work on it if it weren't for the fact
that the company that dispensed venture capital advice wound up having the greatest need
for that advice. The production of the show is on indefinite hold.
